Questions from Fine Arts Coordinators' Meeting

1. Will the schools be given a sample test from TestPoint to familiarize students that have never taken an online test?. The new TestPoint has samples for placement, assessment, and achievement testing, but not ready for academic testing. It’s not really needed either. Kids even in 3rd grade are much more versed in technology likely than their teachers. 2. Will the Algebra I (9th grader) winner be able to participate at Nationals?. TestPoint limits this test to 9th graders while other states may have 1th-12th graders taking this test. This is something we might change next year. Our thoughts around this were several: 1) To give each grade the opportunity to win as much as possible – especially since we have a 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8th grade test. 2) We have had 9th graders win at nationals in the last 2-3 years. 3) It’s highly unlikely a 10-12 grader would want to take Algebra I since most schools take this in 9th grade and some are even taking it in 8th…depending on the curriculum. But for this year, it is a 9th grade only. 3. In Academic Testing in math there will be some winners by specific math tests (7th-9th grade) and some by specific math courses? Correct? Yes, there will be a 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9th grade winners. Then there will be winners of geometry, advanced math, etc.
